Shifts

Doors open at 5:00 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m.

Pick the shift your plant runs and see the day your child has. The routine in each room stays the same, so a drop-off at 5:30 a.m. and a pickup at 11:00 p.m. both feel unhurried.

The handoff

Two teachers at every door

From 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. the first-shift and second-shift teachers stand in each room together.

Children who are going home get their bags and a hug from the teacher who has known them all day. Children who are just arriving meet the second-shift teacher with the first-shift teacher still beside them. Parents from both shifts pass in the doorway, and that is when we hear what the morning was like.

  • First-shift teachers hand over the day's meals, naps and moods

  • Second-shift teachers count heads before anyone leaves

  • Families can stay for a few minutes of the handoff

The late room

A quiet hour before the last pickup

Second-shift children have supper, a story and a rest while parents finish their shift.

The late rooms dim after supper. Children who nap in the afternoon rest on a cot, and the rest have quiet play until a parent comes. A lead teacher stays until the last child has gone home at 11:30 p.m.

  • Supper at the table with their teacher

  • A story before the lights go down

  • Pajamas from home are welcome
